The Picture House

The Picture House is a highly prestigious and innovative residential development in the heart of Streatham. Located south of the River Thames yet within striking distance of London's West End, the 47 apartments in this listed Art Deco property are available exclusively through MiNC Property Enterprises.

The development, a former cinema, represents the synergy of past and present - the modernity of the 1930s juxtaposed against the modernity of the 21st century.

The Picture House today echoes the optimism and glamour of the Art Deco period and doesn't attempt to blend in, or disregard its original use, but instead stands proud and regal, as it always has. The Streatham community demanded respect for an old friend, and we have risen to that challenge.

Dating from an era when films were shown in glitzy and luxuriously appointed 'Picture Palaces', The Picture House conspicuously reflects its former glory. Opening in 1938 as 'The Regal', it was designed by the architect William R Glen to incorporate Art Deco lines and a spacious, light foyer. The first film shown there was 'Vivacious Lady' starring Ginger Rogers and James Stewart, and, like so many London entertainment venues, the cinema did not go 'dark' during the War, staying open to raise the spirits of Streatham locals.

The building itself is Grade II listed and as such, has been retro-fitted to maintain the integrity of the original Art Deco design. The façade has been fully retained, sympathetically blending the nostalgia of a bygone age with modern materials and construction techniques.

The building, on Streatham High Road, is within close proximity to Streatham's many first-rate sports amenities, supermarkets and cinemas. In the locale there are also a host of cafés, bars, pubs and restaurants catering for all tastes.

The Picture House is conveniently connected to the City and the West End by rail and road. It is two minutes walk from Streatham Hill Station and only 16 minutes' journey time from Victoria main line. The nearby A23 offers motorists easy access to central London or to the south of England.
